UHI Hillwalking & Mountaineering Club
This club aims to run at least 2 trips to the hills and mountains of Scotland each semester. These are run on an informal basis, rather than as guided walks or climbs, with members participating voluntarily and accepting responsibility for their own risk assessment and safety.
Club members will be provided with the opportunity, skills and knowledge to enjoy the mountains. Importantly, however, the emphasis for obtaining these skills is on informal learning from the more experienced members of the Club.
The UHI Hillwalking & Mountaineering Club is therefore not an organisation that runs guided walks into the hills. Membership of this club is voluntary, as is the decision of its members to participate in particular Club activities.
As a result, the Club Committee and experienced members cannot be held responsible for the safety of club members or participants who are voluntarily involving themselves in hazardous activity.
It is the responsibility of anybody participating in mountaineering activities to personally look after their own safety and best interests, through self-reliance, risk recognition and the informal sharing of knowledge.
Past activities included a visit to the Fort William Mountain Festival and a hillwalking weekend in the Dalwhinnie area. Forthcoming trips are planned for the English Lake District and the Fort William area.
