Volunteering is the ideal way to gain work experience whilst you are studying. You have far more freedom in the activities you choose, the time you committ to and whether it is for a long or short duration. Therefore, it is easy to tailor the volunteering job to something that relates to your studies and doesn't jeopardise them either.
Stand out from the crowd! As a volunteer, you will make contacts that may lead to a job in the future. You will be given the chance to prove your worth.
There are a number of ways to find a volunteering job; for example, you could approach an organisation, charity or school and ask if they are looking for volunteers.
You could also contact the UHI Career Centre for advice on how to gain a volunteering job and the opportunities in your local area. UHI Career Centre have recently launched a vacancy database, available to students and graduates for up to two years after they complete their studies. Users can register and view the latest placement and internship opportunities by following this link.
