A local school were looking for volunteers to use their skills and run clubs for the children. I enjoy running and thought maybe I could run a cross-country club.

16 children joined and I have to say that first class was quite scary. However, I soon got over that and started to really enjoy it; the children were so eager to learn and to try new things. It wasn't long before I had more and more children wanting to join and I had to find some adult helpers. The school was really supportive and allowed me the freedom to run the club however I thought best.
That was five years ago and now, I have up to 40 children per session but I have 4 adult helpers to assist me. I have started entering them in local cross-country and orienteering events. We got an couple of second places last year and we are aiming for some first places this year.
I have gained confidence and experience that no tutor can ever teach you! You have nothing to lose... give volunteering a try
