UHI Global Percussion Club
Predominately based in Perth, this club meets regularly and performs at various gigs throughout the UK.
The club formed last academic year and applied to UHISA for funding for the instruments they needed to set the club up. A bus was also hired to take the students to Glastonbury to perform at the festival.
Since then, the club has been self-sustaining as they often paid for their performances.
The aims of the club are:
to foster a sense of community and belonging over and above that of a simple music group
to develop members in such areas as insturmental expertise in a variety of percussion instruments and performance skills
to facilitate and encourage cultural exchange
Clubs, such as this one, are an excellent example of how UHISA can provide that initial support needed and thereafter the club looks after itself. However, there are other ways that UHISA can still help - providing advertising space and contacts; advice and support should any disputes occur; we provide insurance cover for members and/or public liability...
